Ace Washington Brutalized by San Francisco PD December 30, 2005

Greetings all,

Mesha of Idriss Stelley Foundation just called me to inform me that Ace Washington, an African-descent man in his fifties, who is well-known in the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood, and has been a community activist for decades, was brutally beaten by SFPD Friday night, 30th December 2005, outside Rassala's club, a jazz club located at Divisadero and 7th Streets in San Francisco. I understand that there were lots of witnesses.

Some of Mr. Washington's activities in and for the community: he volunteers at KPOO radio, he is on the San Francisco Community Policing Board (this might not be the accurate name), he is the official cameraman for Court TV and City Hall on Channel 29 in San Francisco and he is also the house manager for Idriss Stelley Foundation.

Nationwide the cops have been given the green light that they can attack, assault, brutalize, and kill anyone at anytime and especially people who are African, Latin@, Indigenous, Asian, Arab, Muslim, etc. However, it is also becoming more common that young European-American men are also being attacked and killed by the cops. The numbers of people being viciously beaten up and oftentimes murdered in cold-blood, i.e. 1st degree murder, is skyrocketing! Most cops don't even go to trial, the very few who are charged with a criminal offense are NEVER convicted - NEVER! Only a few cops are convicted of criminal charges when it is about money and sexual assault. 

I do not have any ideas of what to do, we can't be at all places at all times, i.e. copwatching. However, one thing we can do is to expose the brutality. Every time someone gets assaulted by the cops, we need to encourage them to speak out about it and then we need to find as many ways as possible to inform the public what is going on. So please pass the information above on to as many people as possible.
