In Another Earth, Brit Marling stars as Rhoda Williams, an ex
juvenile offender who was convicted of manslaughter for having a car
wreck when she was a teenager. The main plot point of the movie is
that another Earth appears in the sky (without another Sun oddly
enough) and comes close enough to our own Earth that people can make
trips between the two planets in a rocket ship. A big sub plot
revolves around Rhoda's attempts to make up for what she did when
she was a teenager, as she befriends the only other survivor of the
car wreck. 3 stars.
The movie ranks as nonviolent because it has only 4 violent scenes
in it. These include a car accident, a scene where two people
are playing at boxing using a Wii interface, there is a story of a
man who blinded himself and a man tries to strangle a woman.
The previews on the DVD include: nonviolent previews for The
Descendants and The Art Of Getting By and a violent commercial for a
movie studio.
