Review for Connected NR Documentary 1:22
by  John Thielking
9-24-2011

In this movie Ashley Marcuccio plays Jane, a woman who is recounting some personal stories about her life with her late father Leonard Shlain while trying to tie together the history of the last few thousand years to suggest that: 1) Men dominated women for ages and started wars and so on because of the development of writing which stimulates left brain thinking and 2) the Internet is now making us interconnected and stimulating right brain thinking and this will eventually make things all right again.  We should note that the writer of the script recieved help from Al Gore and so is probably a hopeless Democrat and Obama-lover.  Weather this polyanna view of the world's future development will work out to bring non-violence to all or weather the Internet will simply become another broadcast medium to send violent images to the masses (via blockbuster violent movies and trailers) remains to be seen. Some books recommended by the movie include, Art and Physics, The Alphabet vs The Goddess and Leonardo's Brain. Three stars.

This movie ranks as iffy because it has a total of 13 violent scenes in it. These include: a soldier getting shot, riots, a bomb blowing up, a car accident, one of the woman's twins dies in the womb, there is a story of a family dieing in the holocaust, a story of WWI including images of war, a story of WWII including a nuclear detonation, a story of 36 million Chinese people dieing of starvation, a woman slaps a man, images of Vietnam bombings and two more nuclear explosions.

The previews included:  two non-violent commercials, a violent preview for Heir Apparent and non-violent previews for Weekend, Margin Call and A Dangerous Method.
