Dirty Girl is a bi-sexual teenage angst type of comedy centering
around the school slut named Danielle (Juno Temple) who is
unwillingly teamed up with in the closet gay basket case named
Clarke (Jeremy Dozier). In the Challenge class both kids are
made to attend, they get a sack of flour to make into a pretend baby
as a homework assignment. Danielle is determined to find her
long lost Dad by making a trip to California. She gets Clarke
to drive her and along the way Clarke gets to experience some
significant events to boost his budding homosexuality. A main
theme of the movie is Clarke's Dad's attempts to discourage Clarke's
natural sexual tendencies, including his threats to send Clarke to a
military academy to "straighten him out". Parts of the movie
are realistic in that not every goal of the kids ends with a happy
ending. But it is questionable weather the writers were intent
on portraying "gay" as a "fixable" lifestyle choice. Four stars.
This movie ranks as non-violent because there are only seven violent
scenes in this movie. A guy gets knocked down, there is a family
fight where the father gets kicked in the groin, a guy gets a bloody
nose, there is a story about child abuse, a boy runs away from a
violent father, a man falls on broken glass and a father beats his
son, but doesn't hurt him seriously.
The previews include: a somewhat violent preview for The Skin I Live
In and non-violent previews for The Artist, Margin Call, Pariah and
Martha Marcie May.
