Review for Dolphin Tale PG Drama 1:52
by  John Thielking
9-25-2011

Dolphin Tale is a drama based on a true story about a dolphin named Winter who has her tail amputated after getting caught in a crab trap, with the fishing line wrapped around her.  The 11 year old boy who rescues Winter is the only one that the dolphin responds to during her recovery and so he skips summer school class to help take care of her.  Such truancy lands the boy in hot water at first, but his mom relents after seeing how engaged the boy is with caring for Winter. The real life Winter can be viewed online by visiting www.seewinter.com.  The 3D version of this movie does not make adequate use of the 3D technology.  You should see the 2D version where it is available.  Three stars.

The movie has only three scenes that can be characterized as violent.  These include: the injured Winter tangled in the crab trap line, cousin Kyle gets injured in an explosion (not shown) while serving in the Army and a hurricane hits Florida, leaving a big mess.

The previews included: a somewhat violent preview for Happy Feet 2 and a non-violent preview for Joyful Noise.
