Review for Higher Ground R 1:49
by  John Thielking

As a non-Christian, I found the movie Higher Ground hard to follow.  It seems to be a plotless 2 hour advertisement for religeous conversion and not much else, except for a significant amount of martial sex (the movie is definitely not sex-phobic) and a little violence and drama. This movie is great for you if you are a Southern or Midwestern Bible Thumper who wants to see preachers rant and people get Baptized. Three stars.

The movie ranks as non-violent because there are only 6 scenes involving violence, a couple of which are non-trivial. A woman has a miscarriage, a man bashes his hand on a table a couple of times, a couple gets into a slight altercation, a bus runs off a road and into a lake, a kid is playing with cocaine while unsupervised and a man chokes his wife.

The previews included: non-violent previews for Take Shelter, Restless, The Descendants, The Artist and Like Crazy. There was an extremely violent preview for Machine Gun Preacher.
