Who Else Wants Peacemovies.com

Thank you for continuing to visit the Peacemovies.com web site in the troubled times of late. Peacemovies.com started in July 2010, reviewing non-violent movies currently in theaters and on dvd. From about October 2010 to August 2011 Peacemovies.com experienced a funding shortage and economic uncertainty which made it undesirable to continue with the practice of reviewing non-violent movies currently in theaters. Buying movie tickets and running ads costs money after all. Since the debt ceiling debacle was recently resolved in a manner that no longer immediately threatens the author's SSDI payments, the author figures that between SSDI and a part time job there is now a stable source of funding for Peacemovies.com for at least the next year, possibly 2 years.

Peacemovies.com seeks to be one piece of the puzzle for how to solve the problem of violence in the world. There are many root causes of violence, as can be seen by reading Christian Parenti's “Tropic Of Chaos”, including global warming that is making ordinary resource shortages much worse. Of particular interest is the notion that people seek out stimulation through either sex or violence. The people who achieve a satisfying sexual or sensual experience are much less likely to become violent, as was demonstrated in a study of 49 different societies of varying sexual mores done by James W. Prescott, located here:
http://www.violence.de/prescott/bulletin/article.html . Since it is not desirable in our society to promote sexual promiscuity or underage sex, it may be helpful to own a pet. The web site http://thepetwiki.com/wiki/How_Children_Benefit_from_the_Family_Pet claims that violent behavior perpetrated by children may be prevented by having them take care of a family pet.

Peacemovies.com attempts to use the free market to attack the problem of promotion of violence by US culture and the military-industrial-complex controlled mass media by supplying people with accurate information about how much violence is in each movie. Each movie reviewed on Peacemovies.com is put into one of four categories: little or no violence, non-violent, iffy and too violent. [Note that movies that are rated Too Violent are listed but not reviewed.] A mini survey done a couple of years ago reveals that about ½ of the people want to watch non-violent movies. The other ½ don't care one way or the other. Only about 10% of the people seek out violent movies as their favorite. 50% of the movies on the market are already non-violent. Since non-violent movies may appeal to 90% of the population, this means that in the ideal free market the market share of non-violent movies could be as high as 90% of ticket sales. If we can get to a place where the only movies that make it to blockbuster status are movies like Eat Pray Love, Tin Cup, Mrs. Doubtfire and ET, we may start turning out generations of leaders who think of non-violent solutions to international conflicts and make those solutions stick.

New! Peacemovies is being updated to be compatable with cell phones.  Those tiny screens just don't handle the old 5 collumn movie rating table very well, so the table is being eliminated and replaced by a single collumn of text, which should word wrap on those tiny screens just fine.  Amazingly, desktop users will experience only 33% more scrolling required to view the single collumn movie rating table that is also compatable with cell phones.  Now that this change has been made, you can easily search for movie reviews on Peacemovies.com while waiting in line at the movie theater.  The pages load just as fast on my Metro PCS "dumb" phone running Metro Web as they do on my desktop running IE8 on Comcast Cable. Pages from a competing movie review web site take up to a minute to load on Metro Web, and then you have to know what movie to search for since all you get on their mobile user web site home page is a search box. Peacemovies.com gives you the complete list of movies at your fingertips even when using a mobile phone.  One bug fix of note: On Metro Web, if you search for peacemovies.com, a selection will pop up at the top of the search results saying "did you mean www.peacemovies.com?"  For best performance, please click on the www.peacemovies.com link and then click on the first search result on the next page. If you don't follow this proceedure, you will get a series of error messages instead of loading the www.peacemovies.com homepage really fast.  For Opera users, all text and headings have now been left justified so that when using the Zoom feature everything word wraps within the Zoomed window. Yay!

Cell phone users update:  Please note that certain links from Peacemovies.com to third party sites may be difficult to access with a cell phone or tablet computer.  Both the Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango links probably require you to download the free apps from those web sites before the links on Peacemovies.com will take you to your final destination. Also, Google wouldn't let me program a search results page for the "search the site" feature that was narrower than 800 pixels, so it is likely that the search results from Google won't load on a cell phone (my Metro Web phone locks up when using Google this way), though they will probably load ok on a tablet or a phone that uses Opera.  If anyone who is reading this and lives in the San Jose, CA area wants to help me troubleshoot these issues by letting me watch them surf the site on their cell phone or tablet computer, I will pay them $20 per device (up to one tablet and one phone) for less than 1 hour's worth of work. If bugs are found, it may be necessary to have more than one session and pay you the $20 per device more than one time.
