What Is Peacemovies.com?

by John Thielking

6-20-2013 Update (edited 7-2-2013):
From the Santa Clara County Green Party e-mail chat list:

This e-mail will likely result in this author being tagged as a dissident by the powers that be and maybe even result in his home Internet connection being wiretapped directly instead of the NSA simply scooping up all of his meta data through that secret room at AT&T in SF.  So be it.

This author was reluctant to respond to another Green Party member's call to comment on the NSA spying scandals and the Edward Snowden controversies and so on until after he had read Alan Pearce's e-book called The Deep Web For Journalists. This book gives a thumbnail sketch of how journalists (and other savory and not so savory types) can evade detection in their quest for anonymous online searches and secure communications.  As alluded to above, this author is not so sure that the techniques in this book would not be vulnerable to being compromised if the FBI or other alphabet soup org were to wiretap your home Internet connection directly instead of relying on the world wide dragnet of everyone's information. Still, if you want to give the middle finger to the powers that be, including at least finding search engines other than Google that don't keep endless logs of your search activities, then this is the book for you. You can download a PDF version after going through the PayPal portal at http://www.alanpearce.com/.  Good luck and God Speed.

PS: An example of one of the recommended search engines is https://startpage.com/uk/  That page says it is powered by Google, but if you hover your mouse over the Google logo you find out that your Google search is done anonymously through this portal. Nice!  Additionally, if you do a search and then click on the "View By IxQuick Proxy" your visit to the web site that you searched for is also completely anonymous. Everything from your computer at home to the startpage web site is encrypted (that's what https:// does). This author was going to ask someone how to set up an https:// connection for the entire www.peacemovies.com web site so that people could surf anonymously while on the site, but that may not be needed. If you want to surf this site anonymously, just go to the startpage.com web site and search for peacemovies.com and then click on "View By IxQuick Proxy" and from that point forward you can surf peacemovies.com completely anonymously! Yay! *%&%%&& the NSA! There is one slight technical glitch with this search page. It doesn't return exactly the same results as typing in your search to Google directly.  For instance, searching for "Peacemovies.com Under The Sea" does not return a result for the review of Under The Sea on Peacemovies.com, but does return the various archived home pages that have Under The Sea listed as one of the movies reviewed. Oh well.  Nothing is perfect. Also, if you want to order a booklet or newsletter subscription from the store you will have to exit the proxy or at least send the info to the peacemovies.com https:// connection.

PPS: Bad News: It now appears that the NSA will soon have the computing power to break standard encryption of encrypted messages and https:// connections, according to an article on the World Socialist Web Site located here: http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/06/25/infr-j25.html . So apparently the only remedy for this is a picket sign, not a soon to be grossly out of date book on the Deep Web. This author has considered how to ensure private web surfing and/or private e-mailing that is not able to be monitored or associated with a particular individual. That does not seem to be practical at this time. It is possible to keep your cell phone from being tracked, but since there appears to be a watch battery in the phone that keeps tracking going even when the main battery is taken out, what is needed is to take the main battery out and then encase the phone in tin foil, unless you want to completely disassemble the phone to remove the watch battery, which isn't needed apparently. In the latter case, remove both the watch battery and the main battery and you should no longer have tracking occurring for your phone. THEN it would be safe to go to a cybercafe (out of view of any security cameras on public or private buildings that may be connected to the Internet and allow spooks from the NSA to use facial recognition software --- or gait recognition software --- to figure out who you are even if you are attempting to hide your identity) and do some anonymous computing.  Be sure not to use your real e-mail address while at the cybercafe location and be sure that any comments you post anywhere on the web are rewritten to disguise your writing style, as your writing style is unique among billions of people. Adopting a valley girl persona would be the easiest way to disguise your online voice, like, totally for real, dude. And make a conscious effort to alter sentence structure in other ways, such as total average sentence length, etc.

For a clue as to where to hold up a picket sign, check out the "Restore The 4th Amendment" protests in your city on July 4th, 2013.  Go to http://www.restorethefourth.net  for more information and to locate a protest near you.

6-3-2013 Update:
(SAN JOSE) Saturday, May 25, 2013 saw one of the largest political demonstrations in the San Jose area in recent memory.  About 500-1000 people came out to protest against the chemical and seed company called Monsanto.  There was a march from San Jose State University to Cesar Chavez Park.  Monsanto is notorious for selling and promoting their Genetically Modified seeds (GMO's) that are resistant to their herbicide Roundup and/or that produce the BT toxin to ward off pests. It is now well known among activists that Roundup is toxic and that BT causes organ damage in the people and/or animals that eat the corn or soy laced with BT.

Editor's Note: It has since come to light through other sources that this list represents not necessarily companies that are owned by Monsanto, but merely companies that use Monsanto's plant varieties as ingredients in their products.

We live in tumultuous times. First Obama signed ACTA back in October 2011 that would usher in a new era of repression for the Internet. Then Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on December 31, 2011, authorizing the indefinite detention of US citizens without charge or trial if they are deemed to be terrorism suspects. Next up is a bill that would strip US citizenship from people who are detained as terrorism suspects and a bill that will outlaw protesting of any kind inside the security perimeter of a venue that is secured by the Secret Service. Plus Attorney General Eric Holder said regarding indefinite detention and extrajudicial executions, “Due process does not include judicial process.” and “The term 'assassination' only includes unlawful killings.” Where will all it end? All we can do is protest at every opportunity and work to raise a generation of folks who will consider freedom of expression and freedom from militarism as core principles to carry forward. To that end, Peacemovies.com seeks to use what is left of the free market to persuade the people who make movies to make more movies that are relatively nonviolent. On Peacemovies.com, movies are categorized into 4 classes: little or no violence, nonviolent, iffy and too violent. About 35%-50% of the movies currently in the theaters are relatively nonviolent. In the tables below, DVDs are rated and reviewed and then the movies currently in theaters are rated and reviewed. Thank you for your support.

Peacemovies.com also offers reviews of older nonviolent movies on DVD.  To see reviews of the top 50 older movies on DVD, click here, or visit the page below to check out the latest non-violent movies and family movies on DVD and in theaters. The complete reviews of everything on newly released DVDs and in theaters from Little Or No Violence up to Iffy are available by clicking the links in the tables below.  Concerned about your privacy while surfing Peacemovies.com?  Not to worry, your information is safe with Peacemovies.com.  Check out the privacy policy here.

New!  The Peacemovies.com homepage has been reorganized to reflect the priorities of the majority of viewers.  Since a survey shows that 80% of you watch DVDs (and 90% of DVD viewers watch new releases), but only 45% of you watch movies in theaters, a brand new list has been created showing new releases to DVD in the past 60-90 days towards the top of the homepage, followed by the regular list of movies currently in theaters. At the very bottom of the homepage are links to archived versions of the homepage, showing past lists of movies in theaters and past lists of movies on DVD.  The entire site is also searchable using the Google search box in the upper left hand corner of the homepage.  Thank you.

New! Instances where movies feature people smoking are now included in the reviews of some of the nonviolent movies that are reviewed. (Movie reviews after 5-14-12 include this information.)  It has been documented that kids smoke more often if they first watch movies that feature smoking.
