Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore) are two "Moms",
otherwise known as two lesbian committed life partners who are raising
two teenagers named Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson).
When Joni turns 18 she decides to get in touch with the man who was the
sperm donor for Joni and Laser's two Moms. The sperm donor is a
man named Paul (Mark Ruffalo), a restraunter who needs his backyard
remodeled, a task that Jules decides to take on with disasterous
results (for the family, not for the garden). This movie portrays the
lesbian parenting situation as being the same as any other two parent
situation with all of the pitfalls as well as all of the blessings.
Three stars.
There are only 4 violent scenes in this movie. There is a wrestling
match in the living room, a kid jumps off a roof while riding a
skateboard and hurts himself, a teen punches another teen in the jaw,
and a man bashes his motorcycle helmet into his bike.
The previews included a boxing preview and a non-violent preview for an
Elvis event, a somewhat violent preview for Charlie St. Cloud and
non-violent previews for Nowhere Boy, Jack Goes Boating and It's Kind
Of A Funny Story.
