Review for Melancholia R Sci-Fi/Fantasy  2:10

Melancholia is a very slow moving disaster movie, about a planet named Melancholia (about the size of the moon) that slams into Earth, wiping out civilization as we know it. Most of the movie focuses on a storybook wedding between Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgard) that breaks down during the reception that is put on by a wealthy financier named John (Kiefer Sutherland of tv series '24' fame).  Then the movie focuses on people waiting for the end, with John setting up his telescope to look at the approaching planet. Three stars.

This movie is ranked as nonviolent because it has only 5 violent scenes in it (though a total of 7 billion people die).  These scenes include: A scene of a moon-sized planet crashing into the Earth, a man breaks a plate, a woman beats a horse, there is a dead body and the final scene where three people are obliterated along with the rest of the Earth.

The previews include: A somewhat violent preview for The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo and nonviolent previews for The Descendants and A Dangerous Method.
