Review for Midnight In Paris PG-13  1:28
by  John Thielking

This movie could be subtitled H.G.Wells meets Groundhog Day, and it appears to be Woody Allen's first time traveler sci-fi movie, though the sci-fi part is burried under the typical Woddy Allen written and directed (but not starred in or narrated) romantic comedy scenes. Liberal Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) is a Los Angeles scriptwriter and novelist who is vacationing in Paris with his fiancee Inez (Rachel McAdams) and her rabid right wing parents John (Kurt Fuller) and Wendy (Mimi Kennedy). One night in Paris, Gil gets drunk and wanders off down the street back towards his hotel.  At the stroke of midnight, he gets picked up by a bunch of partygoers in their 1920's era automobile and as he is transported back in time, his adventure with authors and artists from the 1920's begins. Five stars.

This movie has only two violent scenes in it, which include: a story about war against the Germans and a scene where a detective gets chased by homicidal guards of a 19th century castle (he is not captured by the guards on screen).

The previews include non-violent previews for Take Shelter, The Descendants, Bellflower and Restless and a violent preview for The Whistleblower.
