Nanny McPhee Returns 1:40 PG
Comedy/Family
Emma Thompson plays Nanny McPhee, a decorated nanny from the Army who
pays a visit to a harried housewife and farmer played by Maggie
Gyllenhaal who is caring for her own kids and their two visiting
cousins who are all trying to start a riot inside the family's
farmhouse. A sub plot involves the fact that the husband is off
fighting a war. Flying pigs and a flying motorcycle powered by Nanny
McPhee's magic walking stick jazz up an otherwise melodramatic movie.
Two stars.
This movie is iffy because it has 11 scenes involving violence: There
is a story of the husband being away from the family while fighting a
war, there is a threat to a man of "we want the deed to the farm or
your kidneys", a man falls into a creek, the kids are fighting and
running through the house, then the kids are fighting themselves, there
is a story about a bomb dropping on the farm, there is a telegarm
telling of the husband being killed in action, a bomb falls on the
farm, women are threatening to "stuff" a man, the bomb is threatening
to blow up and the stuffing ladies fly away in an explosion.
The previews include: Non-violent previews for Alpha and Omega, Legends
of The Guardians and Narnia.
