PRINCESS KA'IULANI PG
Princess Ka'tulani is a romantic drama about a Hawaiian princess from
1888 who witnesses the
takeover of her kingdom by the United States. Although this movie
has some storyline about the civil war that happened in Hawaii prior to
the US takeover,
there is suprisingly little violence shown on screen. Most of the movie
focuses on the princess'es life in England and her romance with a rich
man's son and what we see of Hawaii is mostly sandy beaches.
There is one brief battle scene of the civil war where one of the minor
characters is killed, but the rest of the 7 scenes which involve
violence are pretty tame, such as a group brandishing guns threatens
the king, the headmistress at the Princess'es school in England rips up
a love letter after the girls quarrel over it, two lovers' bikes crash
together, the queen invokes a new constitution which the American
diplomat thinks will put American lives and property at risk, men with
rifles run in front of the palace with no shots fired and someone
threatens to imprison the princess if she returns to Hawaii. 4 stars.
Previews included a somewhat violent preview for Winter's Bone and non
violent previews for Solitary Man and I Am Love.
