Ramona and Beezus
G 1:44 Romantic Comedy
9 year old Ramona Quimby (Joey King) stars along with her older sister
Beezus (Selena Gomez) in a rip roaringly funny romantic comedy from
director Elizabeth Allen about a family facing eviction from their home
after the breadwinner of the family named Robert (John Corbett) loses
his job as a high flying executive of a storage company. Robert's wife
Dorothy (Bridget Moynahan) takes on a part time job to support the
family. This movie is based on the book Ramona Forever by Beverly
Cleary. Ramona vows that she will work hard to save the house from
being sold and we see the various failures of that initiative in comic
relief before her final triumph ("Better than a fireman" she says to
her dad). I give this family movie a rare rating of five stars.
This movie has eight scenes that could be loosely characterized as
violent: Ramona is has her foot run over by a tricycle, there is
an imaginary sequence where the bank takes the house using a crane,
Beezus trips and falls, a truck crashes into buckets of paint, Ramona
and Beezus start a fire in the kitchen, a cat dies of natural causes, a
water fight erupts between neighbors and Ramona falls through the
ceiling.
The previews included a somewhat violent cartoon called "The Mouse That
Soared" (where a mouse is captured by birds and then shot arround all
over the place using a slingshot) followed by a somewhat violent
preview for Megamind and non-violent previews for Cats and Dogs, Nanny
McPhee Returns, Smurfed and Narnia.
