Take Shelter is a psychological thriller without all the gore and
violence of a typical horror movie. Construction worker Curtis
LaForche (Michael Shannon) is having strange nightmares and daytime
visions of impending disaster. So to play it safe he decides
to upgrade his storm shelter. Will the world come to an end as
he invisions or does he just need a vacation to get away from it
all? Four stars.
This movie ranks as non-violent because there are only nine violent
scenes in it and only a very brief violent climax. A dog attacks a
man, there is a car crash, there are people attacking a man and his
daughter, there is a story about a chlorine spill that killed 2
people shown on TV, a man has a siezure and is bleeding, there is a
story about violent nightmares, a woman slaps a man, two men get
into a fight and it starts raining dead birds.
The previews are mostly non-violent. There is a somewhat
violent preview for The Skin I Live In (showing a man being tortured
with a water hosing) and there are non-violent previews for Martha
Marcy May Marlene, Margin Call and A Dangerous Method.
