Review for The Big Year PG Comedy 1:45
by  John Thielking

.
Three professional bird watchers Stu Preissler (Steve Martin), Brad Harris (Jack Black) and Kenny Bostick (Owen Wilson) set out to set a new record for the most number of bird species observed in a single year, hence the term "A Big Year", referencing the year long effort put in by these three and several others to break the world record. The movie manages to keep up a fast pace, dispite the sleeper premise of bird watching. Sub plots involve the conflicts between the men and their wives over their obsession with bird watching. Four stars.

The Big Year is rated "non-violent" because it has only nine scenes of violence in the movie and no violent climax.  The violent scenes include: a movie showing the shooting of birds, a skiing collision, a woman pulls a knife on a man, a car runs off the road and crashes into a tree, a toilet crashes through a window, there is a story told of how one bird kills other birds, there is violent turbulence on the flight of a small plane, some birds attack a woman and a man and a father has a heart attack.

The previews included: a violent preview for Johnny English, somewhat violent previews for The Muppets, Jack and Jill and Happy Feet Two and non-violent previews for We Bought A Zoo and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
