Jean-Louis (Fabrice Luchini) is an aging stockbroker who fires his
maid after 25 years because she could not properly cook his hard
boiled eggs in the morning (which makes his day if she gets it right
but pisses him off if she gets it wrong). The new maid he
hires is a young lass named Maria (Natalia Verbeke) who knows how to
cook an egg and who also looks great when the boss peeks in on her
while she is taking a shower. Maria lives upstairs on the 6th
floor with the rest of the Spanish maids. Jean-Louis turns into a
real philanthropist, fixing the 6th floor toilet and paying Maria a
handsome sum for her services. One night after he gets back from a
party with the maids, Jean-Louis' wife Suzanne (Sandrine Kiberlain)
is convinced that he is having an affair and throws him out.
Now the real fun begins. Four stars. The movie is in
French with English subtitles.
This movie has little if any violence. The violent scenes
include: a story about a man dieing, a story about the Spanish Civil
War and the aftermath of a woman being beaten by her husband.
There were no previews when this movie was shown at the Camera 3 in
San Jose, CA.
